Starting from Scratch: Observation
Two blog posts in one day?! Who thought I'd live to see it!
I realized if I'm willing to write a quick little "here's what to look forward for on the game I'm working for" kind of post that I should really take the time to do the same thing for the book I've been drafting. You know, since this started as blog for my author projects? It only makes sense.
I mentioned in my blog post An Author Origin Story that I was about 90k into a book that I've since shelved. This book is not that scratched work. I think at some point I'll go back and finish that behemoth of a project, but for now I'm starting something brand new. While this is just the working title, it may wind up the final. It's called Observation.
Observation is a dystopian fantasy thriller about a police state that rules over an isolated population of mages. I don't want to give too much away, and who fucking knows how much of it will change as time goes on, but I'm about 13k in right now and having a great time!

While chapter titles and scene names are all placeholder text that allow me to quickly hop between different parts of the story to edit or revise, I'm pretty content with the first four chapters so far! I've gone through a quick round of edit for some small changes I've made already during writing, but overall it's stayed pretty much the same. Not bad for a first draft, usually by now I've torn all my writing to shreds and abandoned ship.
Instead of continuing to expand on where I am in the story and what comes next, this blog post is already distracting me from making those decisions. So it's back to the salt mines (Scrivener) for me! I hope to have more updates for everyone in the near future.
